Round Table: In God we trust

The phrase in God we trust is proudly depicted on American dollars. It seems as if trust in the state, in our economy, in politics, is so obvious that one can dream the phrase. But haven’t we lost trust over the years? In democracy, in the state, in the economy, and even in the church? Or in Europe? Even though we profess in Europe we trust, we rather trust in our own own state, our own way of life, our own culture. Similarly, when we say in God we trust, we might simply mean our own God, which symbolises our way of life, our identity.

However, trust considers a perspective greater than your own existence. Trust overcomes boundaries. But does the church, or religion in general, still offer this narrative? And what European narrative can generate trust? We will dive into this during the virtual round table.
