The role of religion within society is a complex phenomenon. In European countries, different historical, political, and cultural factors have shaped the influence religions have on citizens’ public and private lives. For some countries, normativity has existed in regards to religion, often with a specific religious tradition having dominance over matters of religiosity and morality within the country.
In this dossier, 15 analysts discuss the topic of normativity in their native European countries. We identify three common trends in the relationship between religion and normativity among different countries in Europe. We also analyse the challenges and opportunities that the relationship between religion and normativity faces across Europe.
