Maike Domsel
Maike grew up in Heinsberg, in the far west of Germany, in the border area to the Netherlands and Belgium. Maybe that is why she has always been particularly interested in European topics.
In the meantime, she has been living in Bonn for quite some time and has renovated an old pub there, where she now lives.
Maike is a teacher for Catholic religious education and French at a high school in Bonn and a lecturer of religious education at the University of Duisburg-Essen and Cologne. She studied Catholic Theology and Roman Studies at the University of Bonn and received her PhD in Dogmatics from the Kölner Hochschule for Religious Studies in 2019. In her dissertation entitled “Lebe(n) bis zuletzt – Eine freiheitstheoretische Fundierung christlicher Sterbebegleitung” she dealt with resurrection, hope, and the care of moribund patients. Today, Maike’s research focuses on the spirituality of religious education teachers and on comparative theology in the context of a habilitation project in religious pedagogy at the University of Bonn. The corresponding habilitation thesis entitled “Hinter dem Horizont. Zum spirituell-religiösen Selbstverständnis von Religionslehrkräften” (“Beyond the Horizon. On the spiritual-religious self-understanding of
religious education teachers”) will be published in early 2023. Further research on the topic will follow.
She enjoys spending her free time in nature and with animals. Maike is a classical singer and likes everything from Mozart to Wagner. She loves delicious food and most of all she likes to cook it together with friends.
